    Allowing workers to unionize also helps work culture. Many employees don't have a voice at their workplace. Talk about a work culture shift.

    I work at vet clinic - was recently purchased by a new dr. I have now been pushed into receptionist and have a desk job - I don't care for it and I have expressed to him how it was not what I wanted. We have been working together now for 4 months. It started off great, he showed much gratitude with me helping him transition. But now, he is ignorant at times and belittling. I have yet to witness him treat other staff that way. I am at a loss and am ready to walk away. I have yet to confront him. I just took some notes from your video hope it helps!

    This is great! What makes this video even better is that the three examples you use can be brought up in everyday conversations, rather than being limited to specific circumstances. As someone who feels anxious talking to strangers, knowing that certain social conventions fly straight over my head, learning about tips and tricks such as these really help me to keep calm. After all, while it is impossible to remain true to yourself while appeasing everyone around you, learning to be more approachable will have a positive imact on life.

    I've been working at a polytechnic college for twenty-two and a half years. There are a few sets of doors on campus that will stay open to wherever you push them, and early in the morning, they tend to be partly opened by someone who squeezed through on their way down the hallway, or one of the two matching doors will still be closed. I'm not sure who is going to take over the awesome responsibility of opening them all the way when I retire in January!

    Sometimes what you call "fun" is "unnecessary complication" that can add stress to other people's days, especially if they're socially awkward and just trying to get through their work. Workplaces aren't playgrounds

    • @MichaelKerrInspiringWorkplaces
      @MichaelKerrInspiringWorkplaces 7 місяців тому

      Thanks for your comment! Without a doubt workplaces need to encourage fun that invites people to willingly play without forcing them to have fun! There's nothing worse than forced fun. As I write about in my book The Humor Advantage, one study of working dogs showed that dogs that were "forced" to play as a reward actually showed an increase in stress levels! Having said that though, there is an overwhelming amount of research that shows that, when done well, the injection of more humor and fun in a workplace in a safe, welcoming way that helps everyone gain a greater sense of belonging, has enormous benefits and numerous fronts, from morale, to innovation to reduced turnover rates and better communication.

    One of the most petty ways employers demotivate their employees is to used any failures or setbacks they have against them and try to put them down as much as possible. I can see this happens at any workplace environment that have a lot of workplace politics. They reinforce this mindset that your not good enough to get ahead and we're just sticking you at where you at since your pretty good at that job.

    • @MichaelKerrInspiringWorkplaces

    One of my biggest pet peeves at any workplace is when your being constantly pulled from what your doing, that ruins any progress or productivity you have. Also being constantly asked to come back to your previous job that you didn't want anything to with in the first place even though they know well that you'll never come back. These type of pet peeves really grind my gears!!!
